Find your creative joy
The Sacral Chakra
✨ When did you last lose yourself in something you love? A creative project, dancing round the kitchen, laughing until your sides ached? That joyful, flowing feeling has a home in the body, and in chakra teaching it’s your sacral chakra.
I’ve pulled together five simple ways to give yours a little love. Dip into whichever one feels right for you.
The sacral chakra sits just below your navel, in your lower tummy. Its Sanskrit name is Svadhisthana, and it’s linked with the colour orange and the element of water.
It’s often described as the home of your creative joy. It’s connected with your feelings, your relationships and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. When it feels balanced, you might notice ideas come more easily, you feel at ease with your emotions and you let yourself simply enjoy the moment.
Meet your solar plexus
Your solar plexus chakra sits just above your navel, below your ribs. Its Sanskrit name is Manipura, and it’s linked with the colour yellow and the element of fire.
It’s often described as your inner sunshine. It’s connected with self-esteem, making decisions and trusting your gut. When it feels balanced, you might notice you speak up a little more easily, make choices with less second-guessing and feel comfortable simply being you.
1. Find your inner flow
Picture a warm orange light just below your navel.
Find a quiet spot, rest your hands gently on your lower tummy and take a few slow breaths. With each breath in, imagine that orange light flowing softly, like warm water. Even a minute or two can feel lovely, and you can do it anywhere, from a cosy bath to a quiet moment before you start something creative..
2. Feel the sound frequencies
Tuned to the note D.
Our singing bowls are each tuned to a note, and the sacral chakra is linked with the note D.
When the D bowl is played, you might feel its gentle vibration in your lower tummy, rippling through you like a soft wave. In our sound baths, the bowls and gong carry these frequencies for you, so all you need to do is lie back and let them wash over you.
3. Crystals to support you
Carnelian, Orange Calcite and Moonstone.
Set your intentions and feel the power of beautiful crystals, or wear them as jewellery. Warm orange Carnelian and Orange Calcite bring a little brightness, while soft, milky Moonstone is a gentle nod to the water element. Pop one in your pocket or bag as a little reminder of your own creative spark through the day.
4. A little uplifting scent
Orange and jasmine are lovely warm scents for the sacral chakra.
Add a few drops to a diffuser while you work or unwind, or blend them into a carrier oil before they touch your skin. A fresh, zesty scent can feel like opening a window on a sunny morning.
5. Speak your affirmations
Try saying one gently to yourself:
“I let my creativity flow.”
“I welcome my feelings with kindness.”
“I make room for joy every day.”
Pick the one that feels right and say it slowly, maybe with the tip of your little finger gently touching your thumb. This is Varuna mudra, a simple hand position linked with water. It might feel a little strange at first, and that’s completely fine. Small shifts make a big difference.
